Tulsa County Elections 2022

Election Coverage

Tulsans, city-wide, are keenly aware of how well elected representatives serve their interests. Public services, school educator and student performance, policing, entrepreneurial support, road conditions and general quality of life are all points of concern for every voter. The 2022 Tulsa City General Election is the primary civic mechanism to effect the change desired and elect representatives who you believe may provide the leadership necessary to strengthen our communities.

The Oklahoma Eagle has compiled and published a comprehensive list of 2022 Tulsa City General Election candidates, a summary of their stated purposes, goals, and the ability to learn more about each person. Tulsa congressional, legislative, district and county officer candidates have been included to ensure that you are fully informed and may make the most insightful decision possible.

We encourage you to also review the summary of proposed 2022 Tulsa City General Election Tulsa Charter Amendments, which are intended to better align the Charter of the City of Tulsa with Tulsa City Council functions; add greater residency restrictions for Tulsa City Mayor, Auditor and Councilors; and increase the Tulsa City Auditors term from 2-years to 4-years.

Election Dates

  • General Election City Councilors & Charter Amd - Tue. Aug. 23
  • Runoff Election for City Councilors (if necessary) - Tue. Nov. 8

If a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in August, that candidate wins the election outright and is deemed elected.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in August, all candidates receiving the greatest number of votes totaling 50 percent will be placed on the ballot for a run-off election in November. The candidate receiving the greatest number of votes cast at the November run-off election will be deemed elected.

City Council races, listed numerically, are non-partisan.

Proposed Charter Amendments

Amendment No. 1

Mayor’s Salary

The proposed charter amendment is administrative in focus, removing the outdated (1990) salary currently noted (USD 70,000) and empowering the Tulsa City Council to set the mayor’s salary by ordinance. The amendment further limits the effective date for changes to the mayor’s salary to the next succeeding term and approval prior to general election. In 2001, the Mayor’s salary was set by ordinance at $105,000, however our Charter includes language dating back to 1990 that still refers to the first Mayor’s annual salary of $70,000.

Amendment No. 2

Candidate Residency Requirement, 365 Days

The current charter provides that the Tulsa Mayor and City Auditor must be Tulsa residents at the time when potential candidates announce their run for office, but it does not require residency for any specific length of time. A candidate for Tulsa City Council must be a resident in the district in which they are running for at least 90 days. This amendment would add a 365-day City of Tulsa residency requirement to run for Tulsa Mayor or City Auditor and increase a Council candidates Council district residency requirement from 90 days to 365 days.

Amendment No. 3

City Auditor 4-Year Term

The Tulsa City Auditor is elected city-wide and currently serves a 2-year term of office, similar to Tulsa City Councilors. The Mayor is the only office holder elected city-wide and serves a 4-year term. This charter amendment would change the City Auditor’s term in office to 4 years, beginning in December 2026, and would stagger the Tulsa Auditor’s term so that the Tulsa Mayor’s and Auditor’s elections and terms are offset by 2 years. Proposed charter amendment summaries were sourced from Tulsa City Council at https://www.tulsacouncil.org/

Patrick is committed to making “our city a better place for my daughter and all of the future generations. I concentrate on the quality-of-life things. Connecting people to resources, making sure their water and sewer problems are getting addressed. District 3 has been neglected since I was a child. This has been greatly amplified by the pandemic, and it seems as if the district has been forgotten. I, my neighbors, and my community, all see that the current administration does almost nothing to improve the quality of life in Tulsa’s more vulnerable areas. Being that I come from the same roots, I believe that it would be advantageous for the community to have a representative with the same life experiences in order to truly represent our district in the city government – Tulsa World, Aug. 2022 . I am a lifelong Tulsan and have seen the city grow, decline, and emerge again into the dynamic city it is today. Several years ago, I considered running for council, but decided not to do so, because I was an owner and managing a major architectural firm. Also, my children were still living at home. With those professional and family obligations I felt I could not commit sufficient time to fulfill the requirements of a city councilor. Campaign Website
