In 2016, just after the elections, Dave Chappelle was the first guest on NBC’s Saturday Night LiveAnd now fours later, the three-time Grammy winner happened to host the Saturday’s episode, again the first show after the 2020 elections.

Even though the air was filled with excitement following Biden’s victory, Chappelle’s opening monologue still contained stinging comments on race and the health crisis that’s plaguing the country.

Chappelle made fun of how mass shooting in America has subsided due to the pandemic.

“You guys remember what life was like before COVID?” said Chappelle. “I do. A mass shooting every week. Does anyone remember that? Thank God for COVID. Someone had to lock these murderous whites up, keep them in the house.”

Humorously, he also rebuked the white people who refused to wear masks during the pandemic. There so many documented cases of white Americans who refused to wear face coverings or protective masks inside airplanes and stores.

“I don’t know why poor white people don’t like wearing masks. What is the problem,” Chappelle said. “You wear masks to the Klan rally, wear it to Walmart too!”

Chappelle went on to comment on how African-Americans who’ve dealt with cruel acts for centuries in America are capable of dealing with today’s turmoil. On the contrary, the Whites are acting as if they’re in unfamiliar territory.

“You don’t even want to wear your mask because it’s oppressive? Try wearing the mask I’ve been wearing all these years!” he said. “I can’t even tell something true unless it has a punchline behind it. You guys aren’t ready.”

Chappelle even turned his attention to Trump who’s been against mask-wearing and downplayed the virus which has killed hundreds of thousands in the U.S.

After receiving high-priority treatment for COVID-19, Trump returned to the White House and went on to speak before large audiences.
