This outdoors event will be tented, catered and offer family friendly entertainment, including music by Charlie Red and the Full Flava Kings, face painting, raffles and much more! Different local perinatal providers, including chiropractors, herbalists, doulas, birth centers, etc., will be present to connect with families. Swag bags full of breastfeeding information and necessities will also be given away.
Montika Collins is the co-founder and Co-President of Innovations Family Wellness Inc., a pending 501(c)3 organization that is leading health education and outreach for birth & breastfeeding across all socioeconomic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
Why Breastfeeding? Breastmilk has been proven to have significant health benefits for babies, including lowering risk of infections, diabetes, obesity and infant mortality rates. In Tulsa, only 49% of mothers breastfeed up to 6 months, even though the World Health Organization recommends at least 2 years. Innovations Family Wellness is working to increase our numbers in Oklahoma and normalize breastfeeding statewide, especially for black communities that are affected by significantly higher numbers of infant and mother mortality rates.
This event is held during National Breastfeeding Month AND Black Breastfeeding Week because we believe that improving the health disparities in Black & POC communities begins with education on the benefits of breastfeeding and nutrition.
