Why Breastfeeding? Breastmilk has been proven to have significant health benefits for babies, including lowering risk of infections, diabetes, obesity and infant mortality ratesIn Tulsa, only 49% of mothers breastfeed up to 6 months, even though the World Health Organization recommends at least 2 years. Innovations Family Wellness is working to increase our numbers in Oklahoma and normalize breastfeeding statewide, especially for black communities that are affected by significantly higher numbers of infant and mother mortality rates.

This event is held during National Breastfeeding Month AND Black Breastfeeding Week because we believe that improving the health disparities in Black & POC communities begins with education on the benefits of breastfeeding and nutrition.
