In response to the impact of COVID-19 on schools and students across the state, Speaks 4 You, Inc. nonprofit will continue its efforts to provide scholarship seminars and services to underprivileged, low-income, disadvantaged and minority families across the state, virtually. Sponsored in part by the Alpha Tau Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Inc., this virtual scholarship webinar series will enable students and families from anywhere across the state to learn how to search, identify, apply, obtain (receive), and maintain (keep/budget) scholarships to cover the cost of their college education. Further, students will learn the importance of community service, writing a scholarship winning essay, the danger of social media, FAFSA, Oklahoma’s Promise, pageantry scholarships, internships and fellowships.
Students will be able to register to attend this webinar for free by visiting our Facebook page or our website (www.facebook.com/speaks4you and www.speaks4you.org). All registered attendees will receive our Scholarship Guide for high school and college students. This scholarship webinar series will begin Saturday April 25th and will continue bi-weekly until Saturday May 16th.
There will be a raffle for a brand new Amazon Fire Tablet for those who register to attend this webinar and complete the post-seminar survey.
About the Webinar Facilitator
A native of Tulsa, OK, BerThaddaeus is the 11th child of Reverend Dr. Bertrand Maurice and Juandalyn Joan Bailey, Sr. BerThaddaeus is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he was the first student to simultaneously obtain a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public and Business Administration.
At the University of Oklahoma, he served as the Executive Director for the Department of Diversity, Mr. Black University of Oklahoma, President of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Political Action Delegate for Black Student Association, and chair for the Black Heritage Dinner and Welcome Back Mixer. During his academic tenure, he was featured on CNN, MSNBC and Good Morning America discussing the racial tensions that followed a tumultuous event on campus. He currently serves as the State of Oklahoma’s Lead Senior Policy & Research Analyst where he interprets and advises state leaders on health care policy formation and implementation. He also recently began teaching Cultural Awareness at his alma mater, The University of Oklahoma.
Though a product of a low-income household of 11 children, BerThaddaeus achieved two degrees, debt free, receiving over $150,000 in private scholarships. Upon graduation, he founded a nonprofit organization (Speaks 4 You, Inc.) to assist other students in achieving similar collegiate success. BerThaddaeus is also the founder of the Dr. Jerome B. Wade Scholarship, named in memory of his long time child hood mentor.
