It is an exciting time for entrepreneurs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, especially for those of color. There seem to be many events either helping those interested in starting a business, guiding dreamers and owners to the right resources or simply highlighting those who have already begun licensing and launching their own business.
Tulsa has been ranked by “WalletHub” as the fourth best city to start a business, combining Business Environment, Access to Resources, Business costs. Oklahoma City actually ranking number one out of 150 cities on their list.
There are two organizations in particular geared toward linking business owners and or future business owners to the right people, right here in Tulsa.
The first would be Moxie who has a networking day party planned for this Sunday, August 27th at the Fur Shop.
Moxie is a networking group co-founded by Melissa Lewis and Dierdre Bazile that seeks to empower women by providing resources, information and exposure to elevate their professional and personal development.
“Our next event is special because it will be our 1 year anniversary, so not only will you be able to connect with individuals throughout the community, but also there will be live performances, an amazing DJ spinning, and free drinks! ” Lewis exclaims.
“Why not mix business with pleasure and enjoy a day party filled with people who are excited about changing the face of commerce in Tulsa?”
This event is a co-ed event to celebrate their 1-year anniversary. Their previous events have been strictly for women.

R.I.S.E. would be the second organization doing profound things in the city of Tulsa. R.I.S.E., which is headed up by Jamaal Dyer, aims to empower, educate and unify urban professionals to be transformative change agents through community, business and leadership development.
Dyer has organized an evening of powerful panelists, including the executive director from Tulsa Economic Development Corporation, which prepares small business to explore non-traditional lending practices. Business owners and Senator of District 11, Kevin Matthews will be present.
Appropriately named “Mind Your Business” this event will go down Thursday, August 31 at 36 Degrees North, an entrepreneurial incubator space.
“As we strive to enhance the entrepreneurial spirit of our ancestors, it’s imperative that we’re educated and fully equipped with the tools needed to thrive- not just survive!” Dyers states.
